“The human spirit is an unending resource for inspiration.  What better way to celebrate a community than to honor the people that inhabit it,” Christopher Hecker

Laura

Self-preserving, self-protecting.

“Where are the adults?”

Fat at any size.  Food as poison and pain and white- knuckled control.

A four-year-old on her first diet

Fear engulfs, doubt and insecurity bleed out and afflict others

Searching for answers and questions, comfort and escape in the pages of others

Marriage, yearning for motherhood and wholeness

The Loss.  The baby, the blood, the brokenness.

An awakening of all loses

The turning point.  The dream.  A perfect baby, glowing in the forest.  “Our baby is coming”

The baby arrives, and all are enveloped in the healing process of open adoption

A pregnancy brought to fruition, basking in the mystical space of birthing a child

An adoption revoked, a baby taken from her breast.
“It was not me that handed that baby over”

Another gift, her life defying odds

The last birth: a fully realized juncture of power and purpose.  The moment of true healing

Educating and empowering parents and children

Resting in the space and freedom that recovery allows

Troy

Born to the blend of Hawaiian culture.

Infused with the joy of social eating

California teen and knows it all.

Parents send him to work as a dishwasher

Wants to be cool like the cooks at Coco’s

Awakening to food as his life’s passion

A mentor sharpens skills and slaughters ego

“I’ll say or do anything once”

Eight defining years in Asia unencumbered to travel, to work, to learn

Arrives in Denver to infuse his expertise into a new restaurant

Meets a woman and her child. A family begins Vegas-style

Imagining a global eatery that fosters innovation and relationships
centering around a table of food

“Food has been my life”

Years of disappointment, grace abounds as a miracle baby is born

An entrepreneurial vision is fully realized

Ideas flow.  Passion propels.  Always bigger, always better

Aztechan

A baseball bat, a cracked skull and the spark of life

Born from the soot of hate and brutality, yet she rises

A child’s purity is stolen at the hands of the familiar

Wedding bells, and he slashes her back and bashes in her head

It’s 2 am and her blood is on the street.  She leaves and there will be no more.

Learning kindness from another, but he cannot stay

The healing arts repair and stimulate her soul

Dancing in a trace, oblivious to the world, purging the sadness

Dancing into a fairy-tale love, eloping and expecting a magical child

Through strife her baby is born with shattered nerves, limp arm

Baby lives. Mother dies.

Resurrected

A new life

Gratitude flows forth for the gift of life and love
